The shading options have also an effect on the rendering quality:
Constant - Using a constant tone, for each facet only the color-intensity at its center is calculated and this information is used to fill the rest of the face with the same color. This is the simplest and by far fastest type of calculation and depiction. (Only for scanline depiction, e.g. for very fast animation previews.)
Final - With this tone-type an individual intensity is calculated for each point on the object's surface. When using the raytracing or photon mapping algorithm the final tone is automatically applied.
Texture - If this button is selected the object's material textures (procedural or bitmap textures) that have been defined in the materials dialog are included on rendering. For fast previews you can, therefore, switch the textures on or off, independent of whether the texture for the object is switched on in the material dialog.
Interpolate Facets - If you switch on the facet interpolation, then for all objects owning the material attribute "Interpolation" the shading of the surface is smoothed.
Highlights - All objects that are indicated as having a shiny and reflective surface in the material dialog are, on intensity-calculation, rendered with highlight-reflections from light sources.
